In Colombia’s Orinoquía region, the expansion of low-productivity cattle ranching has contributed significantly to tropical deforestation and ecosystem degradation, despite the region’s vast potential for sustainable agriculture. A global climate fund seeking to promote deforestation-free commodity production identified an opportunity to support a regenerative ranching model but required expert guidance to assess the investment’s viability. FAF Developments provided in-depth agronomic, environmental, and commercial due diligence, evaluating land-use strategies, grazing systems, genetic improvement plans, and social and environmental safeguards. Based on FAF’s analysis, the fund proceeded with a long-term investment focused on sustainable intensification of cattle production and the protection and restoration of large areas of tropical forest. FAF also supported the integration of international sustainability and inclusion standards into the ranch’s operations, helping to create a replicable model of climate-smart, deforestation-free beef production that is now driving landscape-level transformation in the region.
