The North American/African Group set out to establish a sustainable beef production operation in Uganda but faced a range of critical challenges that threatened the viability of the project. The ranch was located in a remote area with inadequate infrastructure—lacking reliable water access, electricity, and proper roads—making day-to-day operations inefficient and costly. Animal health and nutrition were also major concerns, with no structured feeding plans, disease prevention protocols, or veterinary oversight in place. Compounding these issues was a lack of expertise in genetics management, with no strategy for improving herd productivity through advanced breeding techniques such as artificial insemination (AI) or embryo transfer (ET). Additionally, the local workforce lacked training in modern ranching practices, limiting the Group’s ability to operate efficiently or plan for long-term sustainability. To overcome these multifaceted obstacles, FAF Developments was engaged to provide practical, on-the-ground solutions to build a resilient and profitable beef value chain.
